Visual Communication Importance

I noticed one thing during my trip to DSM, all of the garments were placed in a specific way. It isn’t laid out like usual shops or boutiques, they had themes running throughout every floor. I felt like this was very important because it sets the mood, atmosphere and concept of the garment – giving viewers an idea what this collection could be about. This collection right here had strong visual communication and immediately I could tell it was referring to Oriental culture as a source of inspiration.

Shapes, Patterns and Pockets

Here I have photographed some very interesting constructions of the garments, it blew my mind how some of these were made…

I absolutely love the construction of this, it's very intricate

This cut is brilliant, I wonder how this was made? How it all connects together?

How?

This is how it actually connects, by a chain!

Thoughts about Dover Street Market

Observing the area of Dover Street Market, it made me feel so little walking through the big, posh buildings, seeing men in suits and women in high heels it definitely has that ‘high end’ feel to it. The department store itself isn’t too far from Acne Studios and the Alexander McQueen shop. I didn’t find any muses that interested me whilst my time there, but I did find a lot of garment inspiration. I’d say this trip opened my mind more about designer clothes and made me even more curious about the fashion industry; it’s good to be exposed to that type of curiosity.

Here are some images to set the atmosphere I felt when I explored the area, the pictures are all taken and edited by me. I specifically edited them like this because I feel there is a high level of sophistication within the area and most definitely style.

Definitely a good place for inspiration, forget about the price and feed your mind with new inspiration, fabrics and shapes. The layout of each floor is also very interesting, it sets mood, theme and attitude to the garments – instantly grabbing the appropriate customers that have that specific style. The location of Dover Street is in a fancy area in London, where a lot of expensive cars, well dressed people and designer shops are present.

  • “Every six months ‘tachiagri’, which means “new beginnings”, takes place. During that time the store is closed for a few days and designers come in to reconfigure the space and introduce new merchandise.” – Telegraph
